In 2012, the first Real-Time Functional Imaging and Neurofeedback conference was held in Zurich, Switzerland. The conference resulted in an influential scientific paper and founded an international community that is today dedicated to support and advance neurofeedback research across all imaging modalities. Three years later, the rtFIN 2015 was held in Gainesville, Florida. The conference brought together 190 researchers from neuroscience, engineering, computer science and clinical backgrounds and broadened methodological perspectives. In 2017, the third conference took place in Nara, Japan, and included 285 attendees. The rtFIN 2017 focused on the organization of international efforts towards clinical translation and the initiation of standards in the field of neurofeedback.

The rtFIN 2019 held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and Aachen, Germany, will continue on this successful path and aims at encouraging interdisciplinary research to advance quality standards for neurofeedback and foster novel methodological developments.
